YOUNG GUNS FC INTERSQUAD TOURNAMENT AND END OF SEASON PRESENTATION 2007

19-5-07

To Celebrate the 1st Anniversary of the Club, a 3 team Competition involving all current match day and development squad members was organised with the players divided according to which Team they follow. This meant that Arsenal (James/Alex/Joseph T/Matt Gardre/Matt Gould/Mason/Toby) managed by Chris Shave, Spurs (Ronnie/Lorrell/George/Sean/Caine/Lewis) by Mick Carrol and England (Callum/Frankie/Joseph R/Billy/Luke/Tyla) by Dave Gregg (Man Utd, West Ham, Chelsea) would all play each other twice with each game 6 minutes each way in duration.

The 1st match saw Spurs take on England with the Cockerel proving to be too strong for the 3 Lions as Spurs won 2-0 with goals from Sean and Lorrell though England with a couple of quick breaks competed well with Joseph and Billy defending very well. FINAL SCORE SPURS 2 ENGLAND 0.

England got off the mark in the 2nd match when Frankie finished comfortably after good wing play from Callum. Arsenal gradually got more into it and with the last kick of the half Mason put them level. Both sides had chances to win in the 2nd period but there were no further goals. FINAL SCORE ENGLAND1  ARSENAL 1.

The North London derby was next up, with Arsenal starting the brighter but it was Spurs who took the lead through Caine. Mason had 2 good chances to equalise but a good stop and a snatched finish meant the opportunity passed. Caine was again on target in the 2nd period to gift all 3 points to Spurs with Ronnie and George strong at the back dealing with the threat that came from Joseph. FINAL SCORE SPURS 2 ARSENAL 0.

In the 4th match England with Tyla and Callum inspired raced into a 2 goal lead over Spurs with goals from Frankie and Luke but Tottenham hauled themselves back into it to take a share of the spoils with strikes from Caine and Sean. Lewis nearly nicked it for Spurs at the end. FINAL SCORE ENGLAND 2 SPURS 2.

In their last match England again took the lead with Callum firing them ahead against Arsenal but the Gunners responded well in the 2nd half and after Mason equalised, Matthew Gould scored the winner (left) with a cracking finish at the far post after strong support play from both Toby and James. FINAL SCORE ARSENAL 2 ENGLAND 1.

In the final match, Arsenal had to defeat Spurs by 3 goals to win the competition and in a really exciting match with some very good natured banter it was Spurs who came out on top after goals from Sean and Lorrell gave them a 2 goal half-time lead though Alex and Matt Gardre competed very well for the Gunners. Matt Gould pulled 1 back from kick-off (right) and Arsenal had a right go but Spurs in the end proved too strong with Caine sealing victory and the competition in the dying moments. FINAL SCORE ARSENAL 1 SPURS 3.

ENGLAND 4 0 2 2 2

Congratulations to Spurs (right) who on the day were just too strong for Arsenal and England though all in all every match was well contested and every player should be proud of their efforts today.

Afterwards a penalty shoot-out competition was held with the Final 3 going into sudden death Caine, Joseph Roberts and Mason who was 1st to exit after hitting the bar. Caine held his nerve (above left) and Callum pulled out a great stop from Joseph to give Caine (pictured below right) victory.

The presentation closed the day off with Matthew Gould receiving the Development Squad Team Player of the year award based on 100% attendance and a great attitude.

For the matchday squad the Team Player award was a joint one with Alex Shave and Joseph Toumazos (below) the recipients after both have shown a great attitude and committment to the Club in their 1st year of organised football.
